Hondo High School

Hondo High School

The enrollment at Hondo High School is just under 600 students. The original structure was constructed in 1950. There have been a number of additions and renovations since the 1950's, however the campus still has a number challenges related to educational/programmatic adequacy, and capital needs. The HISD bond program includes the following improvements for Hondo High School:

Hondo High School Improvements

  1. New Career & Technology Education & Ag Facility – Includes 4 classrooms for Ag Welding, Ag Woodworking/Construction Trades, FFA & a multi-purpose classroom, computer lab, and shops for welding, woodworking and construction trades.
  2. Science Lab Renovation – Repurpose existing Art to a science lab
  3. New Band Hall
  4. New Student & Community Fine Arts Center – Seating for 600 w/UIL compliant stage. Also includes new Art room.
  5. Activity Center Renovations – Includes handicap Access to 4 classrooms on second floor along with demolition of stage, repurposing the space for 3 classrooms.
  6. Addition to Frank Holden Field House to replace the Freshmen Field House
  7. New Student Athletic Center – Includes gym, dressing rooms to support boys & girls athletics, training room and support spaces. Center will also provide public access to restrooms for baseball.
  8. New UIL Compliant Track with supporting restrooms/concessions.
  9. New Marching Band Practice Area
  10. New bell/intercom system; upgrade fire alarm; and reroute Avenue H

Update:

Fine Arts Facility

  • Substantial Completion has been established as April 6, 2020
  • The Fire inspection was completed and a conditional Certificate of Occupancy was granted
  • The band department has completed their furniture and equipment move from the old bldg.
  • Civil Engineers punchlist work in progress and near complete
  • Fire lane striping and signs have been installed
  • HISD engraved brick installation is completed
  • Topsoil, hydromulch and temporary irrigation are installed
  • Millwork contractor completion of band storage area is pending material delivery (delay)
  • All flooring is complete and the district has begun waxing all VCT areas
  • Architectural and other punchlists are in progress
  • Electrician continues working on punchlist and additional lights are on order
  • Theater rigging and lighting systems are being completed and will be tested this week
  • Contractor continues installation of cabling for remote operation of roof smoke vents
  • Audio/visual systems have been tested with consultant for punchlist
  • Start-up test and reports are being assembled by commissioning agent
  • AC control sequence for 2nd floor unit was revised and controls are being updated
  • HISD has installed the network and wireless access points; projectors are pending
  • Old Transportation Bldg – Abatement work in progress and will complete this week; Demolition crew will mobilize next week
  • Old Bandhall – HISD continues to remove equipment; Abatement work scheduled to start next week

  • TAS/RAS inspection deficiencies completed and letter of compliance received
  • Contractor has submitted closeout documents for review
